You may not think of Walmart as a weight loss clinic. Walmart most likely is not the place to be inspired to lose weight. In fact, Walmart may not inspire you at all.
But on a side note. Walmart has been upping the TV commercial game which has, frankly, inspired me. From the pay hike for workers to the recent, Made in America TV spot.
Okay, back to the guy who lost over 300 pounds by walking one mile to Walmart.
Of course he didn’t lose 300 pounds by walking one mile. He walked one mile several times. Here’s how it happened.
His name is Pasquale “Pat” Brocco. He’s 31 years old, from Arizona and used to weigh a crazy, 605 pounds. I think it’s fair to say that the only thing that really inspired Pat was eating. And obviously he ate a lot. But everything changed for Pat after a doctors visit. The doctor told him his life was in serious danger by his high blood pressure and high cholesterol generated from his excessive weight.
He went home and took a picture of himself in front of the mirror.
“My stomach was down to my thighs. My chest was hanging down here,” he told ABC News, pointing to his stomach. “I was disgusted.”
That’s when the idea of walking to Walmart came to him. 3 times a day he would walk to the closest Walmart to buy his food and walk home to eat. In less than 2 years, he said he lost 200 pounds.
“You walk to Walmart three times a day, and you end up walking 6 miles,” he said. “It’s amazing because I never walked 6 miles in my life, and I was doing it every day.”
Going to the gym was not an option for him.“I mean, at 600 pounds, I couldn’t even go to the gym,” he said. “I didn’t fit on the machines.” After loosing some weight, Pat was eventually able to begin using the incline treadmill and the other machines at the gym.
